Firefighters were called to the home just before 7:30 a.m. on a report of smoke in the basement along with the odor of gas, said James Gagliardo, the department’s public information officer.
Units quickly located the source and extinguished the blaze, he said.
The American Red Cross was brought in to the assist the family.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
